The Sixth Rule of Selling

The Bookshop Guru

Don’t think about it, just do it.

That’s right, don’t think about it, just do it. Now! Forget about tomorrow, it never comes.

Give me an Olympic gold for effort, because without it, you aren’t going anywhere. And I mean it. There are no shortcuts in life, you only imagine there are. Every person is captain of their own ship, where you want to go, it’s up to you. Your success is not proportional to the effort you put in, that part is purely random.

I can win the lottery in a second, but spend a lifetime finding a cure for cancer. Which is more rewarding?

Success is not about how much money you have, it never was.

There’s an old Babylonian tale about a fabulously rich king, who one day received a strange visitor into his court. The man was not dressed like a man of the court, but like a beggar on the street, but he neither was nor starved like the rest of them out there. The king asked what he wanted. He told the king to go to his treasure room. There he said, "You will find it all gone." The king laughed, "Are you mad."

The king knew his treasure was guarded day and night by loyal men. Besides, the room was a huge former dungeon under lock and key. It held countless jeweled treasures’ of many former kingdoms conquered by the king in his younger days. From east to the Euphrates and west towards the great Niger treasure he had stored the fruits of war in this great cathedral of stone, it would take many men several days to empty the room completely, he thought. No one could get inside without blood being spilled, without help. Someone’s head was going to roll for this. Heads will roll.

The king ordered his guards to check the room. The men who had been guarding the room, unlocking were surprised, and, the room was dark with dust, but no shiny gold. No one wanted to inform the king, in case it was their head that rolled.

"Don't let that man leave... I will have your head," the king roared. The strange man was led by the king toward the treasure room. The king demanded to know where the treasure had gone. "What is your name? How did you do this?" the king asked.

The stranger replied, “Just remember your treasure in this life has no value in the next."

"What is your name?" The king demanded.

The stranger replied, “They call me, the messenger. I come and go when my father demands it."

He then just turned and walked away as if he was never there.

The King died within a few months. To this day the greatest treasure of Babylon has never been found. The legend also says that the slaves of Babylon were freed soon after this meeting, but before the King died. Many today, still believe that this was the price, a King paid to live a few extra months.

Believe me, if you follow the rules to the letter, and there is really only one to remember, even me, my memory just disappears when it wants to into the ether, can easily remember one chunk, that’s my name and yours too. Our optimal size is 7 pieces of chunking at any one time. That’s why most of us can just about manage only 4-digit pins comfortably. For most of us, mere mortals seven chunks have always been enough on anyone’s plate.

Don't put any spiritual meaning to 7 being an optimal size. Actually we currently only understand about 10% of our brain capacity. The rest is mostly conjecture and theories
.
If you do everything to the letter with the right attitude and you still fail. Well, then, come see me first, because we need to sit down and discuss a book deal. It could be a bestseller.

Tomorrow, I will tell you about The Man that Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo and the last rule to remember.

There’s a saying “If you snooze, you lose.” Forget it, you're dead.

Don't make me have to wake you up. Come on, get up! Tomorrow’s too “phucking” late.
